I’m a monolingual parent and educator, AND I’m on a journey to learn Spanish myself while also teaching it to my kids—my 6-year-old and my 11-month-old. It hasn’t been perfect, but it’s been fun, and every day we’re learning a little more together.

One of the easiest ways I’ve found to introduce Spanish is by simply swapping a few common phrases I already use throughout the day. Here are some of the small changes I’ve made:
Everyday commands – Instead of saying “Come here,” I say “¡Ven acá!”
Words of love – Instead of “I love you,” I say “Te amo.”
Setting boundaries – Instead of “Don’t touch that,” I say “¡No toques eso!”
These tiny swaps may not seem like much, but they add up. My kids hear the repetition, they connect the meaning to real-life actions, and slowly, Spanish becomes a natural part of our conversations.
That’s what The Francis Way is all about—making Spanish learning fun, natural, and doable for families, even if you’re starting from scratch like me. I also create learning resources to make the journey easier for parents and kids.
