Labeling Your Home in Spanish: A Simple and Fun Way to Boost Language Learning

I’m back on track with teaching my son Spanish, and this time, we’re taking a hands-on approach that immerses him in the language every day. One of the easiest ways to reinforce vocabulary and make Spanish a natural part of our daily routine is by labeling items around our home!

Why Label Your Home in Spanish? Exposure is key when learning a new language. The more my son sees and hears Spanish, the more natural it will feel to him. By placing labels on common household objects like the puerta (door), ventana (window), and horno (oven), he will start associating Spanish words with the objects he uses every day. Plus, it’s a fun way to integrate learning without feeling like a chore!
How We’re Doing It This week, we’re grabbing some colorful sticky notes and going room by room, labeling as we go. Here are just a few of the words we’ll be focusing on:
  • La puerta – Door

  • La ventana – Window

  • El horno – Oven

  • La mesa – Table

  • La silla – Chair

  • El refrigerador – Refrigerator

  • La lámpara – Lamp

  • El espejo – Mirror

Every time we pass by these labels, I’ll say the words aloud, encouraging my son to repeat them with me. By doing this consistently, he’ll start recognizing and using the words in context.
